MGA sessions

Gi

The traditional style of Jiu Jitsu, trained in a jacket, trousers and belt. Gi grips allow greater control, including sweeps and submissions, while certain leg locks are restricted. It can be slower and more technical as a result of the Gi friction and tactics. Students who start in the gi often develop strong, hard-to-pass guards.

NO GI

The modern style, trained in a rash guard and shorts or leggings. There are no grips on clothing, and twisting leg locks like heel hooks are allowed. This change has reshaped the sport in the last decade. No Gi is faster and more free-flowing, with emphasis on wrestling, body control and greater rewards for athleticism.

OPEN MATS

Unstructured training time in Gi or No Gi. Practise techniques, spar freely, and learn from different training partners at your own pace in a relaxed setting.

WHY CHOOSE MGA?

Great coaching is the foundation, but at MGA it doesn't stop there. We've built a framework that ensures the same high standards of coaching, physical preparation, and member experience are delivered consistently, regardless of who is leading a class.

That framework was built by people who've done it before. Aidan co-founded London Grapple in 2021 and has grown it into one of the UK's most respected grappling academies. Tom is a BJJ black belt under Lachlan Giles with over a decade of competition and coaching experience. Tim is a sports medicine clinician with 18 years of experience working with elite athletes and an active PhD researcher in the field.
